It has been weeks since we had rain beyond a short shower, and the ground feels crunchy. Fire warnings have been in effect for some time now, and ponds that were overflowing a year ago now look like swamps.

It is raining today, though. The morning has been quiet, but now cars have ventured out in spite of the weather, the swoosh-swoosh down a main street breaking the silence here and there.

The sun makes everything seem possible, unlimited time to walk and enjoy the gorgeous autumn light, rake leaves, dash here and there.

Rain draws the line, limits, invites contemplation. Winter will come. Life indoors, smaller, can feel like a hug.
